August Break

On the last day of August Break I am posting a photograph I took earlier this year, on the day our wedding rings arrived. I didn't check my emails Monday, and last night I found I had an email from Offbeat Bride to say that my wedding to the lovely Prof was featured in their Monday Montage.

We're having an August Break of our own right now, spending a week house-sitting for friends in Canterbury, Kent. We're enjoying slow days, good food, each other's company and the view from the kitchen table across the garden to the fields. See you next week.

the bananas are talking to us

A bit of a cheat today, as the Prof took this photograph. When he grabbed his usual breakfast-on-the-run banana this morning, the banana had something to say. Actually, the one he ate said 'Help'.

kitchen sink monologue

This is what my kitchen sink area looks like today, and if I am honest, most days. Tupperware on the drainer to be put away. Jam jars I seem to be collecting (does anyone know why?).  A vase that was an engagement present from family friends, that has been waiting weeks to be put away,  and now I see my cherry brandy glass is next to it, I didn't know that was there. Several mugs are waiting to go into the dishwasher (which is waiting to be emptied). New bottles of washing up liquid and soap that haven't even made it into the cupboard under the sink. My refillable green water bottle that I conscientiously fill with pieces of lemon and water every morning and then largely ignore. Looking at the photograph now I notice that despite buying a new chrome timer at least two months ago, I didn't throw away the old yellow one that doesn't work anymore; there they both are on the window ledge.  The magnet on the gas boiler belonged to a dear friend of mine and says 'Friends are the family we choose for ourselves'.

In the time I spent writing this post, I guess I could have tidied up the whole area.
