kitchen sink monologue

This is what my kitchen sink area looks like today, and if I am honest, most days. Tupperware on the drainer to be put away. Jam jars I seem to be collecting (does anyone know why?).  A vase that was an engagement present from family friends, that has been waiting weeks to be put away,  and now I see my cherry brandy glass is next to it, I didn't know that was there. Several mugs are waiting to go into the dishwasher (which is waiting to be emptied). New bottles of washing up liquid and soap that haven't even made it into the cupboard under the sink. My refillable green water bottle that I conscientiously fill with pieces of lemon and water every morning and then largely ignore. Looking at the photograph now I notice that despite buying a new chrome timer at least two months ago, I didn't throw away the old yellow one that doesn't work anymore; there they both are on the window ledge.  The magnet on the gas boiler belonged to a dear friend of mine and says 'Friends are the family we choose for ourselves'.

In the time I spent writing this post, I guess I could have tidied up the whole area.

  1. I'm so glad you wrote this instead of tidying up. I also collect useful jars and pots and things and, after washing them, put them all in a small space in my downstairs bathroom. When the space fills up I chuck them in the recycling bin and begin the process all over again.

It's something I learned from my mother.
She probably got it from hers.
